Basic Structures of Chinese Grammar

Grammar plays the role in bringing Chinese characters together. Chinese grammar is simple and straightforward compared with English and other language.

** Chinese grammar has no tenses and each verb has only one form.

To form a plural, just add a character (们, mén) after the subject.

For example,

I learn Chinese - 学中文

We learn Chinese - 我们学中文

To talk about the past and the future, just add extra characters ( 了, le)after the verb)

. For example:

I go to school - 我学校

I went to school yesterday - 我昨天去了学校

No adjective changes for comparative or superlative and no verb-to-noun change with suffix.

Additional characters will have to be used to express all those concepts.

For example:

small -

smaller - 较小

The Chinese grammatical structure of a sentence is roughly the same as other languages. Since there are so many things in common, concentrate and focus your attention to the differences that give you the most surprises.
